Territory: North Denver Region; including Broomfield, Westminster, Thornton, Northglenn, Brighton, and surrounding cities.

Job Summary:
A spiritual care counselor, sometimes referred to as a chaplain or pastoral counselor, provides emotional and spiritual support to individuals facing challenging situations such as illness, grief, loss, or other life transitions. Their work often takes place in healthcare settings like hospitals, hospices, or rehabilitation centers, but they can also be found in other environments such as prisons, military settings, or community organizations.
Spiritual Care Counselor Responsibilities:

  • Providing Spiritual Support: They offer guidance, comfort, and spiritual resources according to the beliefs and values of the individual or their family. This might involve prayer, meditation, or religious rituals.
  • Offering Emotional Support: They listen empathetically to individuals' concerns, fears, and struggles, providing a supportive presence and helping them explore their feelings and emotions.
  • Facilitating Religious Practices: For those who are religious, they facilitate religious services, ceremonies, or rituals, ensuring that individuals can maintain their spiritual practices even in challenging circumstances.
  • Assisting with Decision Making: They may help individuals and families navigate difficult decisions, such as end-of-life care choices, by providing guidance and support based on their spiritual beliefs and values.
  • Collaborating with Healthcare Teams: They work closely with medical professionals, social workers, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure that individuals receive holistic care that addresses their spiritual and emotional needs alongside their physical health.
  • Providing Education and Training: They may offer educational programs or training sessions for healthcare staff on topics related to spirituality, cultural sensitivity, and compassionate care.
  • Crisis Intervention: During times of crisis, such as sudden illness or traumatic events, they offer immediate support and comfort to individuals and their families.
Hospice Chaplain / Spiritual Care Counselor Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Divinity, Theology, Ministry or Pastoral Care from an accredited school.
  • Minimum of two years' experience providing spiritual support and counseling to clients and family members in a health care setting.
  • Demonstration of expertise in spiritual assessment and counseling, and in concepts of death and dying issues.
  • Knowledge of concepts and issues for dying for adults and children. Current Colorado driver's license and automobile insurance.
Hospice Chaplain / Spiritual Care Counselor Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in divinity, theology or related field.
  • Previous hospice experience.
  • Bilingual abilities, a plus.

The salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. The pay range for this role in the state of Colorado typically falls between $65,000-$75,000 annually with the potential for performance-based bonuses and other benefits. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as qualifications, experience, and location within the state.
